A complete guide to repainting your bathroom

Posted by Titan Bathrooms on

Repainting your trusty bathroom is always a fun endeavour, as is the idea of giving any room a brand new, spiffing look. However, a lot of the time, people tend to underestimate just how large of a task this is. There are plenty of things that can go wrong in the process that could spell trouble for the future. So, that's why we've decided to write you a quick, simple and easy to follow guide on how to redesign your bathroom in five steps!

Step 1 - Planning
No good project comes without a plan. You'll need to write down want you want and don't want. Consider what exactly you want your new bathroom to look like. This is where layout sketches come in handy, as not only do they allow you to efficiently plan your layout but also give accurate measurements and a good perspective on how the room is going to look. Consider size and space, write down what you want to improve and why, note anything you want to keep or change. Once you have a solid idea of what you're going for, then you're sure to be on the right track.

Step 2 - Decide on your Theme
Some would simply place this in the "planning" category, but the overall theme of your bathroom is something you simply CANNOT overlook. Now that you've planned everything out, how do you want the bathroom to look? Classy? Modern? Perhaps a hint of romance in there? The theme is what ties it all together. Matching colours and shapes help to bring a redesigned bathroom together, so think long and hard about how you want it to look, but don't go too crazy. Gold-encrusted taps and toilet plungers might not be within your budget.

Step 3 - Cleaning and Painting
The next step, of course, is a good clean up. Nobody ever gets anything done on a messy workspace. Clean your bathroom, remove everything from it you can, Hoover it, clean it, wipe it, place down towels, paper and paint-proof mats to make sure the room is spotless and secure before going to work. Now that you have everything out of the way, you can start carefully painting your new bathroom with your layout and theme in mind. Painting is probably one of the easiest ways to do a quick redesign, and some people simply paint the room and leave it at that. It's simply a quick, cheap and effective way of making your bathroom look brand, spanking new with very little effort. Plus, now that everything is neat and tidy, it's much less difficult.

Step 4 - Drying and Double-Checking
Watching paint dry is never fun, but being impatient and going in while the magic is still happening could spell disaster for your new design. On average, paint usually takes only 6-8 hours to dry, but to be safe you should leave it for 12 hours to give the new coat more than enough time to dry. If you want to apply a second coat of paint, then you'd have to leave it for a whole 24 hours instead. Once it's dry, you should always check each crack and crevasse immediately afterwards, since most simple errors and paint smears can be easily removed if the paint hasn't been dried for too long.

Step 5 - Finalising
This is more or less your relaxation time. You've done it. You can kick up your feet and chill now because your bathroom is finished. However, sometimes the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae is the most important part. Is there anything else you want to add to your bathroom? Perhaps a new bin? A modern-looking radiator to keep your towels warm? Maybe it's finally time to replace that old, grimy toilet brush with a shiny new one? Now that your room looks good as new, buying some new decorations and utensils to fit the theme of your bathroom could give it an even more refreshed appearance. If not, then we hope you enjoy your new, gorgeous-looking bathroom! We also hope you found this guide helpful. Thanks for reading.
